This water goanna story is from the Wandawuy area. The pattern on this painting is a freshwater design for Djapu. The Goanna swims down the different streams and collects freshwater mussels and brings them back to the main water hole. This is a sacred water hole for Yolngu. The story is only used in important ceremonies.
