Coiled mats and place mats are made with Gunga (Pandanus Spiralis) using a coiling process. The coiling technique was introduced around the missionary era. In this technique a bundle of fibre forms the foundation core. Using a darning needle the bundle is wrapped with a strand that is looped through the wrapping of the previous row. The Gunga is coloured with natural bush dyes.
