Yambirrku the parrot fish appears in ancestral songlines of the Madarrpa and Mangalili clans around Blue Mud bay in East Arnhemland. Ancestral hunters fished for Yambirrku around the reefs and the songlines tell of these hunting trips and the locations where events happened. The totem Yambirrku is also associated with mortuary ceremonies.
